Stage 2: Tangier – Errachida

It was a long stage, telegram style news of the day:

  • We started the day with a real greenhorn mistake: did not check the last page of challenges and missed one task close to our hotel (take a selfie at the building depicted on the back of the 200 Dirham bill). We had to backtrack 150 kilometers to Tangier, 3 hours lost.
  • Moroccan fuel is still crap. No power and a fuel consumption of 20l/100km. It took until the evening to empty the tank and to fill it up with good (Shell) stuff.
  • The biggest waterfall of the Atlas mountains has dried up. Locals say it’s not unusual at the end of the summer.
  • We saw some Barbary macaques
  • On a small mountain piste in Khenifra national park a car rolled over and fell into a gorge. This happened 20m in front of us. Lackó is the hero of the day, our car hasn’t even stopped, he was already climbing down the gorge to pull out the four passengers, luckily all of them unhurt. We spent 3 hours there securing the car, removing the luggage, and distributing the passengers and their stuff to other cars.
