Day 5: Ifrane – Ouarzazate

Despite getting out of bed at 7am we only arrived at the camp south of Ouarzazate now, it was a long 600kms. The camp is in the middle of nowhere (for the horror film lovers: the deserted set where Wes Craven’s movie “Hills have eyes” was shot), we have satellite phone access to the Internet only, so there are no photos today. Sorry.

The highlights of the day were a 110m waterfall and crossing the High Atlas at more than 2100m on a narrow track which was asphalted the last time probably a 100 years ago in complete darkness.

Day 4

Stage 2, the super marathon of 2400km, is finished. Luckily 2000 of the 2400 we spent on the ferry, it was exhausting ๐Ÿ™‚

By noon we had passed all the passport, police, and customs checks and were allowed to enter Morocco. After lunch in Tanger we visited Hercules’ cave:

and then continued to our first camp in the Low Atlas mountains (the other sights of today we missed because of the darkness, thanks to the super efficient immigration procedure). However, this small inconvenience was more than compensated for by the owner of the campsite who invited us for dinner (delicious lamb and chicken stew with rice, carrots, and bread) ๐Ÿ™‚

Not all the cars are performing as well as the Beast:

Waiting to get off the ferry:

Arrived in Africa!

After two hours of queuing on the ferry we just arrived in Morocco. Expect 2 more hours in various queues until we pass customs, passport, and other checkpoints.

You have reached the first post of the blog, sorry
