The last two weeks were ruled by paperwork: Visa forms, passport photos, car insurance, personal insurance, CB radio and sat phone permits, car tax, donation agreements, and probably a few more which I forgot already.I hope everything is complete now. We are supposed to receive our visas, permits, and the starting number in a few weeks. On the equipment side, there are the follwing new items piling up in the trunk of Baby Beast:
second spare tire (still without a rim, Baby Beast’s strange rim size is hard to find on ebay)
two aluminum sandplates
a 12V to 230V converter
a tent (we left our tent in Mali last time, I found a cheap new one for 30 Euros, I hope it will be OK for two weeks)
We booked our flights from Bissau back to Europe for the 13th of February. If we succeed to get there in time (the planned finish is on Feb 9), we will have 3 days to finish our charity activities and to do some sightseeing.
This year it was for whatever reason Mitsubishi Pajero year. Whenever I found suitable off-road it was Pajero. Different years, different countries, in different stages of decomposition, some with wooden steering wheels, but all Pajeros. And the final winner is……
My friend found it just few kilometers from my home town. All important stuff is functional except airconditioning. But who needs aircon in January? Right? As an extra, it comes with bit of rust round wheel arches and exhaust is bit noisier then it should be. The original radio with cassete player (are you old enough to remember those?) is long gone, so it does not stand in the way of CB radio. Having the huge sunroof we will have to fit all our stuff inside the car. It would be a sin to block it with the roof rack. Can’t wait for the first test drive.
