In the morning we did some sightseeing in Barcelona: visited Gaudi’s famous church La Sagrada Familia and had a walk in the city center. In 1999 when I last saw La Sagrada Familia, it was only 4 towers in the middle of a huge construction site. Meanwhile it has been turned into a very impressive church (still in the middle of a construction site, completion is planned for 2026, almost 150 years after the beginning of the work).
In contrast the Rambla (pedestrianized main street of Barcelona) did not change at all, full of overpriced souvenir shops and restaurants.
We stopped at a Turkish restaurant a few streets away from the main drag and enjoyed our first warm meal since Thursday.
Around 2pm we left for Algeciras, the ferry port to Morocco. We are not yet there because of lots of rain and slippery roads (we even saw some snow on the road today), we will take a short nap now at a petrol station 50kms ahead of the port.
We have arrived at a petrol station a few kilometers before Barcelona and will sleep here for a few hours. Its cold, -1 °C.
We plan to take the ferry from Algeciras to Tanger on Monday in the morning, there is enough time to start Sunday with a short tour of Barcelona.
Yesterday we visited Monaco and followed the Formula 1 racetrack for one round. My lap time was 11:48.47, mainly because the car is too heavy. Janos packed too much canned vegan food 😉
I have to admit, however, that the traffic jam and the red lights had an impact too.
