In the Altai mountains

This part of Russia is a popular holiday destination, quite rightly. Beautiful mountains, wild, unregulated rivers. And lots of rain.

I celebrated the end of the rain with a Russian breakfast: caviar, vodka

and dried fish

The others celebrated with some morning exercise.

We are in Russia again

we managed to repair the car yesterday and left Almaty in the afternoon. To catch up a little bit we drove all night, arrived at the Russian border today in the morning, and are now in Biysk. The goal for tomorrow is to finally enter Mongolia.

The roads in Kazakhstan are much better than anything else in Central Asia:

Driving in the night is tiring, especially in heavy rain like yesterday, but luckily the nights are short here: around 2:30am.you can see the sun rising again:

Crossing the Russian border was quick and easy. But the rain continues and many roads are flooded here too:
